Nature Art

I often struggle to finding relevant, meaningful lessons for my youngest students (3-5) that will allow them the chance to be creative and achieve success.  Recently I decided to let the students focus on elements of nature and using those tools as our medium in creating art.  To help I read parts of "Look What I Did With A Leaf" by Morteza E. Sohi that really helped the students understand what is possible just by using simple items we find in nature. The students and I then went on a nature walk and collected some samples of rocks, leaves, and sticks to use at our next class.  Our follow up lesson consisted of the students using these elements to create pictures or recognizable things only using the leaves, sticks, and rocks they had collected.  This proved to be a fun a project with a high level of success for the students.
