Three Dimensional Cities

Fourth and Fifth grade students have been focusing on art of creating drawing that show height, width, and depth.  We used the basic four figures of sphere, cone, cylinder, and cube to create our unique design for city construction.  Students layered these shapes and added both shading and shadows to create a more realistic three-dimensional illusion.  The Medium for this project was paper and pencil but the final products are amazing.  Pay attention to the creative differences in the students’ work as they were allowed to make their city their own unique design.

2nd Grade Creature Creations

Most recently second grade students have been working on the creature creation project.  This project focused on the skills of Sketching: using short light lines to build your drawing one little piece at time, Chunking: Breaking a drawing into smaller chunks and only focusing on them one at a time, and using a Visual Model: looking at a picture or model of something to draw from.  Second graders did a great job of using these techniques to create unique and creative creatures.  Students also had to create a unique environment for their creation to live in.  Students were given choice of colored pencils, crayons, and markers for their medium and could mix and match, as they needed.   Great job second grade.

Kindergarten Abstract Art

Kindergarten students have been working on multiple aspects of art this year including color, line, and space.  Most recently students learned about the difference in realistic art or realism and abstract art.  Students focused on abstract work of Wassily Kandinsky and used his idea of circles to create this colorful abstract project.  Students used the medium of paper, pencil, permanent marker, and tempera paint.  Students also used multiple items for tracing their circles on the paper.  As always students focused on quality work and filling all the space with color and being consistent with their work.
Great job Kindergarten.

A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words

Third grade students worked on building their knowledge from their recent field trip to the Blanton Art Museum by creating their own masterpiece using the Medium of their choice.  Students were asked to create a work of art that they could then use as a starting point for a story.  We called this project A Picture is worth a thousand words relating back to the idea that we can learn so much when take the time and really look at the world around us.  Students had to include information about their artwork and brief write up on the story that their picture tells.
