2nd Grade Aboriginal Art

2nd graders this year learned about the continent of Australia with a focus on the native aboriginal people we looked at their unique art style of using colored dots to create beautiful ornate art usually on rocks and pieces of tree bark.  This group of indigenous people has a history that goes back thousands of years.  Despite a long history, this culture of people has faced many challenges that have negatively impacted their way of life.  The students learned that one element of their culture still exists today, their art.  Students looked at multiple examples of Aboriginal art work which uses small dots to create lines and shapes. The students learned that symbols such as a fish, a kangaroo, or other native wild life carry lots of meaning in Aborigines culture. The students worked very hard to capture a similar style of art for this project.

The Mediums used for this project were paper, pencil, marker, oil pastels, and paint applied using only the tip of a q-tip.
