First Grade Ink Haunted Houses

To begin this lesson we discussed the difference between organic shapes, those found in nature, and geometric shapes.  We talked about how most human made things are comprised of geometric shapes especially when looking at architecture.  To coincide with Halloween students got the opportunity to design and create their own haunted house.  Students started with basic geometric shapes and then were able to add their own unique details and scary touches.  Students were not allowed to make their project too scary or gory.  The first day the drawing was done completely with pencil.  On day two students were to trace over their drawings using sharpies.  This was the first time these 1st graders were allowed to use sharpies.  Students finished their project by using an eraser to eliminate any stray marks.  Great job first grade.
