1st grade cartoon styled reindeer

For this project we talked a lot about prior knowledge regarding reindeer and the similarities of different cartoon characters. We then went through a step by step process of drawing a cartoon style reindeer that each student could then tweak and change adding their own personal touches. This was done on black paper unsing colored pencils to add color.

2nd grade 3D Snowman project

After seeing their 1st grade peers complete the 3D pumpkin project my second grade students requested I teach them the technique needed to create this style of art. This snowman project was done by having students do a simple drawing and then we carefully added color and shadows to create the illusion of depth. The idea that a snowman would not be colored all white was a bit of challenge but I think they got it.

1st grade 3D Pumpkins

For the first time I tried to teach 1st graders about 3 dimensional drawing and how light and shadows add depth to a 2 demnsional work of art. Building on the student's knowledge from 3D movies and video games I was able to get them to grasp the concept and create these colorful pumpkin pictures. Students used Crayola colorsticks to get the blended coloration.

3rd grade Warm and Cool color making

5th Grade Color Making Leaves

As we moved from fall to winter 5th grade students created these colorful leaf paintings. Students used tracers for the basic outline ans uniformity and then used primary colors to create their colors. Students were challenged to use only warm colors for leaves and cool colors for the background. Overall they did a great job despite the frustration color making can create.
